Plant Description
Sandalwood essential oil is extracted from the heartwood of Santalum album, a small evergreen tree belonging to the Santalaceae family. Sandalwood has been highly prized for centuries because of its unique fragrance and exceptional value in perfumery, cosmetics and traditional wellness practices.

Although native to the Indian subcontinent, Santalum album is now sustainably cultivated in several tropical countries, including Indonesia, where favorable climate and growing conditions produce high-quality sandalwood suitable for essential oil extraction.

The sandalwood tree grows slowly and usually requires 15 to 20 years to develop heartwood rich in aromatic compounds. The valuable essential oil is obtained by steam distillation of finely chipped heartwood and roots. Depending on the age of the tree and the quality of the wood, the oil yield generally ranges from 3% to 6%.

Sandalwood Oil is renowned for its rich woody aroma, excellent fixative properties and high content of natural santalols, making it one of the most valuable essential oils used in premium fragrances, skincare and personal care products.
